May I suggest...

Post by Leah Southey »

I'd like to see new posts when I log in, anything that's been posted since my last visit. That would help a lot.

On the main page, if you scroll down, there's a bit that says "Recent Topics" which lists all the latest posts in order.

You can click on the "Recent Topics" heading to see this whole section full screen here. If you scroll through this section you'll find all the posts that were added since your last visit. The ones with a red circular icon on the left besides the thread title are the ones you haven't seen yet. The ones with a blue circular icon besides them are those you have seen.

You are right, it works just basically just the same way as we had it in the old Forum. :) While I liked it the old way better, where you saw with one glance only what YOU had missed: it was called then, what you had "subscribed to" by either posting or literally "subscribing" to/on a thread... On the other hand, in this new way, you also find what might be of interest to you beyond subscribing to a certain topic.

...But, could the "full screen" contain more than this meager 5 topics per page, pretty please? thumbing through a list in "5-topic-steps" is a bit frustrating :hearts:

Hi Leah! Thanks for your nice suggestion of improvement :)

I am not 100% sure that I got it right, but are you meaning that you would like a list of all new topics that you haven't yet read?

If that's the case, this functionality already existed, but I must say quite well hidden, in the menu Quick links -> Unread posts (Link: search.php?search_id=unreadposts)
In there, it gives a list of all recent topics that you have not yet read.

However, I now changed how the "recent topic" list shows to be the same, so now, if you are logged in, it only displays the most recent unread topics for you. I would love to hear your feedback if you think this way is better than how it was before :)

Hi dear PoE

I have now changed the setting to displaying 10 posts at a time. The only reason I had it set to 5 is that I unfortunately don't seem to be able to have a different amount of "recent posts" showing in the start page or on the dedicated "recent topic" page.
So when changing it to 10, it also shows 10 on the start page. But I think that should be fine(?)

I have a problem with the "recent topics", that seem to not update properly. I wrote a PM to Simon yesterday around noon, that after me, having hit "send", still lingers in my outbox (that is another problem ;)). I re-post it here, as the problem still continues!
Paradise-on-Earth wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 11:43 am Hi Simon,
I just worked on the Forum and wanted to look at my thread that I did some work on this morning (at 10:26 AM) and couldn't find it in the "recent topics". I did- around 12:30- this screenshot from there: My thread "I love to be satisfied and eager for more" in the Rampages does not show up anywhere:

...I checked in the index of the rampages, and there it is, on top of the list, even Feel Good's rampage is younger:

...I thought I tell you... :hearts:
Much love, Elke!

I just found this interaction about the same topic:

FloatingBoat wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 11:29 pm (...) Do you still see my topic in the recent topics? Because it no longer appears for me in the recent topics.
Yes I could see it until I viewed it. Simon has recently changed the Recent Topics so that after you view a post, it disappears from the Recent Topics list. So if you've viewed every post, there won't be a Recent Topic area at all!
That explains my problems that I described above. I already wondered why there are so few topics in there!... But, this doesn't work for me AT ALL. Could this be changed again, PLEASE!? :hearts: (Thanks once more for all the work, Simon! It is so appreciated!!)
